Course Description
This in-depth study invites participants to delve deeper into the themes and teachings encountered during their journey through the "Year with Jesus" devotional program. Designed to be an enriching complement, this course encourages critical engagement with the material, fostering a deeper understanding of biblical principles and their application to daily life. The course is divided into six thematic units, each exploring key aspects of the Christian faith as presented in the "Year with Jesus" devotional. Students are encouraged to work through the units at their own pace, allowing the course to seamlessly integrate with their devotional journey.
Summarize the key events, movements, and turning points recorded in the Acts of the Apostles.
Understand how the risen Jesus continues His work through the Holy Spirit and the early Church.
Identify the roles of key figures in Acts (e.g., Peter, Stephen, Philip, Paul, Barnabas) and explain their contributions to the spread of the gospel.
Explain the major theological themes of Acts, including the Kingdom of God, the mission of the Church, salvation by grace, suffering and witness, and the inclusion of the Gentiles.
Understand foundational Christian doctrines as they are expressed in Acts, including the work of the Holy Spirit, the Resurrection and Ascension of Christ, the nature of the Church, and God’s redemptive mission in the world.
Develop basic skills in reading and interpreting biblical narrative, including identifying key themes, tracing the movement of the gospel, and analyzing speeches and conflicts within the text.
Apply the practices and rhythms of the early Church (prayer, fellowship, generosity, discernment, and witness) to contemporary Christian life.
Develop strategies for living as a Spirit-empowered witness in everyday contexts.
Analyze and evaluate Christian beliefs, leadership models, and ministry practices in light of the witness of Acts.
Critically examine personal beliefs and assumptions regarding faith, power, suffering, and mission through engagement with Scripture.
Communicate Christian beliefs and the gospel message clearly, respectfully, and effectively in diverse relational and cultural settings.
Participate in thoughtful and meaningful discussions related to spiritual growth, communal life, and participation in God’s mission.
Cultivate dependence on the Holy Spirit through prayer, obedience, and discernment.
Develop a desire for continued growth in Christian maturity, discipleship, and mission.
Foster a deep love for God’s Word as a living testimony to God’s ongoing work in the Church.
Develop a consistent life of prayer and spiritual practices that cultivate attentiveness to God’s leading.
Cultivate a servant’s heart marked by humility, courage, generosity, and faithfulness.
Develop leadership qualities modeled in Acts, including humility, compassion, integrity, and boldness for the sake of Christ.
